On the 75th anniversary of Social Security, President Obama promises to protect it from Republican leaders in Congress who have made privatization a key part of their agenda. He makes clear that, especially in light of the financial crisis, gambling Social Security on Wall Street makes no sense.

Today's Schedule

The First Family will travel to Florida’s Gulf Coast and spend the weekend in Panama City Beach, FL.  While in Panama City Beach, the President and First Lady will join area small business owners and Navy Secretary Ray Mabus for a roundtable discussion of the recovery. In June, the President asked Secretary Mabus, a former governor of Mississippi and a son of the Gulf Coast, to develop a long-term Gulf Coast Restoration Plan. Following the roundtable discussion, the President will make a statement.

9:30 AM: The First Family departs the White House

9:45 AM: The First Family departs Andrews Air Force Base en route Panama City, Florida

11:50 AM: The First Family arrives in Panama City, Florida
