Subject: Registration and Abstract Submission for EAACI DHM5 2012 is open!

Dear EAACI friends and colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce that the registration and abstract submission for the EAACI Drug 5th Hypersensitivity Meeting, DHM5 2012, is open!

This Meeting will take place 11 – 14 April 2012 in Munich, Germany, and it will be the prime event of the year in the area of drug hypersensitivity. It is aimed to present the latest findings in this field by covering basic, translational and clinical aspects:

· Epidemiology of hypersensitivity drug reactions
· Pharmacovigilance and prediction
· Pharmacogenetics (genetic tests to prevent allergic reactions to drugs)
· Risk factors for drug hypersensitivity (e.g. HLA associations)
· Relevant immunological background to drug hypersensitivity
· Fundamental mechanistical principles of drug hypersensitivity
· Drug hypersensitivity and viral disease: the dynamic interaction
· Contact allergy meets drug hypersensitivity
· Animal models to understand drug hypersensitivity in man
· Progression of cell injury to inflammation and hypersensitivity
· Cross reactivity in drug hypersensitivity
· Construction of a test plan in drug hypersensitivity
· In vivo diagnostic tests (skin tests, provocation tests)
· In vitro diagnostic tests (serum specific IgE assays, basophil activation test, lymphocyte activation
test, ELIspot)
· Diagnosis and clinical management of hypersensitivity reactions to:
o Antibiotics (betalactam and non-betalactam)
o Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
o Antineoplastic agents
o Contrast media
o Muscle relaxants and other perioperative drugs
o Biological agents
o Anticonvulsants
o Anticoagulants
o New drugs
o Vaccines
· Latest research on drug hypersensitivity in abstracts and presentations
· Severe cutaneous and systemic reactions (e.g. TEN, SJS, DRESS)
· Drug anaphylaxis
· Internal organ involvement in drug hypersensitivity
· Treatment of hypersensitivity drug reactions
· Desensitisation or tolerance induction in drug hypersensitivity (protocols for antibiotics, antineoplastic
agents, biological agents etc.)

We are very honoured and privileged to have secured the participation of several keynote speakers from top-level international institutions in the field of drug hypersensitivity research. This Focused Meeting will be attended by internationally renowned scientists, clinicians and key members of the drug industry.

In light of the increasing knowledge in this field, DHM5 2012 will provide you with an excellent opportunity to learn about and to share major developments, novel ideas and unprecedented progress in this area.

We look forward to welcoming you at the EAACI DHM5!

Best regards,
Knut Brockow Christian Virchow
DHM5 2012 Chair EAACI Vice-President Congresses

Subject: EAACI Congress 2012 - Allergy and Asthma at the Crossroads

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is with the greatest pleasure I am inviting you to the EAACI Congress 2012 to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, 16 - 20 June 2012.

A highly interesting scientific programme has been developed by the Scientific Programme Committee and the Local Organising Committee, after proposals from many EAACI members. In total, seven plenary or semi-plenary sessions and approximately 65 symposia and workshops will give a very good overview of the latest science and information in the field of allergy, asthma and clinical immunology.

These scientific sessions will be complemented with several clinical updates and pro-con debates, which further increase the excitement of the programme.

I encourage you to submit your research or clinical cases as abstracts to the EAACI Congress 2012. The deadline for abstract submission is 18 January 2012. Even if you choose not to submit an abstract, our team guarantees that you will have plenty of high quality sessions to choose from to learn more about the area of your interest.

The EAACI Congress 2012 in Geneva will be the most important platform for scientific and social interaction in the allergy and clinical immunology fields in the year 2012. The Congress website, www.eaaci2012.com will open very shortly with more information.

I look forward to seeing you in Geneva next June.

Best regards,
Cezmi Akdis
President EAACI
